Right Oblique (Demonstrated in Ranks)
Left Oblique (Demonstrated in Squads)
Obliques, obliques, obliques! First of all, the word “oblique” is pronounced to rhyme with “strike.” Second of all, these are the bane of EVERY drill team who encounters them in their drill sequences! But worry no longer. This exercise is designed to simulate the way you should command the “Platoon, HALT” with the first half of the preparatory command, “PLA-” occurring on the pivot step of the oblique so as to spend the least amount of time in the oblique as possible!
We’ve demonstrated both right and left obliques in both ranks and squads BUT you could also work within the “diamond” of cadets formed when you face the platoon to the half right or left! This arrangement would help maintaining spacial control throughout the movement!
Sequence:
7 (Right Oblique) or 8 (Left Oblique) Steps Forward (Last Step is Pivot Step)
3 Steps in the Oblique (3rd Step is the Halt Step Placed in the Oblique Angle, 5th Count is to Close Feet)
