The DTD Warm-Up Exercise Program: Armed Regulation Rifle Manual Warm-Up

This one is a money-maker!  We LOVE this one because it makes working on something mundane SO much more fun!  Now, in this demonstration video, we utilized a metronome with a drum beat.  We did this SOLELY to avoid copyright issues with background sounds.  In reality, we use ACTUAL music at a tempo that the team can sustain successfully!

This is important because many try to make the CADENCE the driving factor in rifle manual.  The ability to execute within the specified cadence ranges in each drill manual is a byproduct of excellent technique, mechanics, and timing.  Moving too fast too soon will compromise those three things.  So choose music at a reasonable cadence that your team enjoys and let’s get jamming!

Sequence
You can technically do ANY command (or sequence of movements as in the 15-Count Manual of Arms) to music but we do have a few recommendations:

  • This is NOT a substitute for TEACHING or CLEANING the rifle manual; we recommend doing this in small groups.  This is a warm-up for once those standards have been established!
  • Work in a circle around the speaker so that each cadet can be specifically aware of their teammates while also focusing on their individual quality!
  • Consider including repetitions where the team executes an About Face and faces AWAY from each other.  This allows the team to dial in their timing to the speaker without the ability to “hide” or “blend” into their teammates!

Here is a recommended progression that we ACTUALLY use and implement to include at competitions:

  • 3x Inspection Arms Facing IN
  • 1x 15-Count Manual w/ Music Facing IN
  • 1x 15-Count Manual w/ Music Facing OUT
  • 1x 15-Count Manual w/ Music Facing IN
  • 1x 15-Count Manual WITHOUT Music Facing IN
