Key Details

Head

  • Chin SLIGHTLY above parallel
  • Ears pulled back into alignment with shoulders
  • EXERCISE: Look all the way down then look all the way up.  Move the head to perfectly level to the marching surface and then lift the chin just slightly.

Shoulders

  • Create height and uniformity by…
    • Pull shoulders UP towards ears
    • Pull shoulders BACK into alignment with back
    • Relax shoulders DOWN and slide the shoulder blades down the back to open the chest

Arms

  • Pull elbows away from shoulders to keep straight
  • Tricep should be SLIGHTLY flexed

Ribcage

  • Ribcage should be lifted away from hips 
  • EXERCISE: Breath and feel the ribs naturally lift upwards.  Breath out but leave ribcage in elevated position while feeling a slight flex in the core.

Hips

  • Align the hips with both the shoulders and heels
  • EXERCISE: Place your hands on the dip in your hips with fingers on the front and thumbs to the rear.  Push downward to feel a tilt, then push up, then settle the hips perfectly straight forward.

Hands

  • Tightly curl fingers 
  • Thumb should be straight and pressed into the hand contacting the knuckle of the index finger; there should be no gap between the thumb and hand
  • Pull thumb down to create a straight line from shoulder to thumb joint

Feet

  • Heels should be together and on line
  • Toes should be angled outward at a 45-degree angle
