Overview
Boy, have we got something to show y’all…
After months of working closely with our friend, Mr. Adam Jeup of the Drill Dojo, he’s released a brand new type of rifle sling that’s sure to bring your Uncasing procedures to the next level! Presenting…
COLOR GUARD VELCRO SLINGS!
These slings are extra-durable, made from a tougher grade of fabric than most slings available on the market today, and feature two strips of industrial-strength hook & loop material to make opening and closing the sling a breeze.
Gone are the days of malfunctioning clips, twisted sling material, waiting for eons while one guard finds the clip that’s slid down too far. Gone is the need to create *sniff sniff* cues (you shouldn’t be using those anyway…) to make absolutely sure you finish the adjustment process on time.
We’re here to teach you everything we’ve learned about these slings, show you how we prefer to install them, AND give you an exclusive discount code to join our Drillpedia.net platform! Keep on reading…
Where do I get these slings?
There are two ways you can pick up a set of these awesome color guard slings! The easiest is by visiting the Drill Dojo Sling Store by CLICKING HERE! The slings come in either black or white and are sold in sets of two!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
After review from the company that owns & operates The National High School Drill Team Championships and the Air Force Open Championships, these slings have been disallowed for use at both competitions. Presently, units attending the Army JROTC National Drill Championships are also disallowed from utilizing the slings. MARINE CORPS JROTC UNITS HAVE A POLICY LETTER DIRECTLY FROM HQ MCJROTC AUTHORIZING THE SLINGS AT ALL MARINE CORPS COMPETITIONS. AS OF SY23-24, THE DRILL DOJO HAS BEEN CONTRACTED TO PROVIDE SLINGS TO MARINE CORPS JROTC UNITS SOLIDIFYING THEIR ACCEPTABILITY AT MCJROTC COMPETITIONS.
If you have training scheduled with Drill-Team Dynamics Inc., we usually have a quantity of these slings on hand for direct purchase through us so if you’re looking for professional training, be sure to CLICK HERE and learn more about our offerings!
Why would I want such a thing?
If you’ve had to conduct the Uncasing procedures during a high-stakes competition, you know that we’ve taken Sling Arms, a movement intended to be non-precision, and JROTC-ized it into absurdity. Any slight deviation in timing, any small equipment failure, any difference in technique at all and you’re likely leaving points on the board.
These slings address issues that have nothing to do with performance and take them off the table. The hook and loop closure ensures that hours of practice don’t go out the window because of a manufacturing issue with a small piece of metal never intended to be manipulated in competition with such intensity and specificity. The thicker grade of the sling material itself means that the sling holds its shape throughout the process; there is nothing worse than training hard only to be met with a twisted sling on game day.
Ok, so I got the slings…How do I install them?
Step 1:
Lay your sling out fully with the metal H-bar closest to the butt of the rifle and the “tail” closest to the barrel. Notice that one side of the sling has 3 strips of Velcro and the other is smooth.
Step 2:
Identify whether you’ll use a metal “J-bar” sling clip. These are NOT included with the slings and are not necessary for installation. We prefer them for aesthetic reasons but there are plenty of valid arguments to looping the sling straight through the lower swivel ring. In either case, the next steps will be identical.
Step 3:
Push the TAIL of the sling, with the Velcro facing TOWARDS the underside of the drill rifle, through the swivel ring towards the butt of the drill rifle as shown. This will form the loop that affixes the sling to the rifle.
Step 4:
Pull the sling material all the way through the swivel ring and thread it up through the metal h-bar as shown.
Step 5:
Pull the entirety of the tail through that h-bar as shown.
Step 6:
Begin to feed the tail of the sling through the other side of the h-bar as shown. Carefully begin to thread the entire sling through that second opening.
Step 7:
Once you have threaded the entire tail through, your sling should now look like so with the Velcro patches facing AWAY from the underside of the drill rifle.
Step 8:
Thread the tail of the sling up through the mid-swivel ring of your drill rifle such that the sling material will loop AWAY from the rifle when we complete the installation.
Step 9:
Pull the tail all the way down so the Velcro strips line up. Voila! You have a functioning color guard sling! Consider rolling the extra sling material at the end of the tail into a ball and taping it to ensure the sling cannot come unthreaded from the mid-swivel ring and to provide a good grasping point.
How do I execute movements with the Velcro slings?
