A “hybrid drill rifle” is a combination of drill rifle parts, main the receiver and barrel assembly, installed into a stock intended for usage with a demilitarized M1903 Springfield rifle (such as a New Guard America High Impact stock.)
A hybrid rifle is desirable for its durability as well as the balance the difference in stock construction makes due to the hollow interior meant for the firing components of the real Springfield rifle.
Hybrid rifles typically weigh just under a pound less than their standard drill rifle counterparts keeping them competition legal while also making them slightly easier to handle. The drill activity has largely embraced this slight weight difference due to the increased need for durability in drill rifles which stocks like the NGA High Impact stock provides.
