FREE – Using Title I Funds to Support Drill Team Training & Development

Overview

The following is an excerpt sent to us via a former on-site training client who is now in an operational oversight position with their district’s Director of Army Instruction office.  This district is a highly diverse one with one of the largest concentration of JROTC programs in the country.  As such, resources could tend to be scarce.  This is his guidance for seeking out Title I funding should your school qualify for such!

Guidance

First, I researched and found that Title 1 funds can be used to improve curriculum, instructional activities, counseling, parental involvement, increase staff and program improvement.  The funding should assist schools in meeting the educational goals of low-income students.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, Title 1 funds typically support supplemental instruction.
I basically went to my appraiser and Title I coordinator and told them the following:

  • Title I funds are designed to improve the academic achievement of disadvantaged students specifically.
  • The service or support must be in direct support of Title I students.
  • Allowable expenditures include (but are not limited to): Instructional aides, Supplemental Instructional Materials, Instructional Technology, and Parent Engagement Activities.

Once armed with the above information and communicated my end state goal in a timely manner,  they were accommodating.
