FREE – Late-Season Practice Plan

Overview

So.  You made it.  You marched your final competition of the year.  We hope it went great – and if it didn’t, well that’s OK too!  There’s always room for growth, after all!

You’re at a pivotal point in your season and MOST teams across the country are ready to put the rifles away, trade grueling after-school practices for sunny afternoons, and take a break until the next season begins.

But if you do that, you’ll likely spend your time trying to reach back to the level at which you ended this season.

Rather than quitting cold turkey (which rarely works for anything, after all), try this practice plan out!  You don’t need to practice but once or twice a week to ensure you start NEXT season in a better place!

The Goal

The goal of this practice plan is to not get worse.  That’s right.  You aren’t trying to improve anymore.  You’re just trying to not get worse.  Secondary goals include keeping engagement high from your team members, having fun learning new skills, and maybe even working your non-competing members into the rotation to get them ready for next year!

The Plan

DURING PRACTICE

  • Warm-Up and Stretch
  • Run A SINGULAR “competition run-through” of REGULATION AND EXHIBITION (if applicable) with whatever available people are at practice! Don’t worry too much about fixing anything or improving anything; just focus on not getting worse!
  • Choose 1-2 events (time dependent) below and work on skills in the areas below! Make sure to mix-and-match these evenly!
  • End practice by marching back to your JROTC area!
  • IF POSSIBLE, color guard stay and run A SINGULAR “competition run-through” of the color guard sequence!
